Top 5 Upcoming Electric Bikes & Scooters

The electric vehicle industry has been growing since the Indian government has subsidized EV's and the growth can be seen both in four-wheelers and two-wheelers. But two-wheelers industry seem to be changing faster towards the electric side. So there are a lot of electric two-wheelers coming out the near future and today we are going to look at 5 of the upcoming two-wheelers.

1. Hero Electric AE-47

Hero has come up with an electric motorbike which is not going to be cheap as Hero says it is a lifestyle product. The body definitely looks like a modern motorbike with a classy headlight. The official name is not going to the AE-47 and will be revealed when it launches. This will also only be available as at only selected retailers. 

The hero AE-45 is powered by a 4kW motor and hero claims 0-60kmph in 9 seconds which if true will be impressive. It has a removable 3.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack which can be fully charged in 4 hours. They claim a range of 165 km in eco mode and 85 km in power mode. The AE-45 will be launched presumably near Rs 1 lakh.

2. Vespa Elettrica

Whether this vehicle will launch in India is unclear but there is a high chance of a revised version to launch in the mid of 2020. The version to be launched in India will be designed in Italy and made in India. The body is very similar to its petrol-powered counterpart. Some notable features also include an LED lighted system, TFT screen for calls and messages bundled with the Vespa mobile app.

The Elettrica is powered by a 4kW electric motor and Paaigo claims a peak torque of 200Nm. They also claim a range of 100 km in eco mode and 70 km in power mode for each full charge. The estimated price at launch will be around Rs 90,000. 

3. Okinawa Cruiser

Maxi-scooters market is growing in India as Suzuki has the Burgman street 125 and Aprilla SXR 160 is also on its way. But Okinawa is going a step further with their Okinawa Crusie which is an electric maxi-scooter. This has a chromium finish on the handlebar and the wheel. The footboard is also spacious and can accommodate two adults easily. You will also find all modern features like anti-theft alarm, find my scooter function, USB charger, etc.

The Okinawa Cruiser will be powered by a 3kW electric motor with a 4kWh lithium-ion battery. Okinawa claims a top speed of 100km/h. The removable battery will take about 2-3 hours to get fully charged. They also claim a range of 120 km on a single charge. The Okinawa Cruiser is expected to launch mid-2020.

4. EeVe Tesoro

With all the big brand entering India with there electric scooter there are also many promising startups revealing their EV's. One such startup is OmJay EM which is based in Bhubaneshwar as they reveal two of their upcoming two vehicles one motorbike and a scooter. The motorbike is Tesero and the scooter is Forseti.

The Tesoro will be able to attain a top speed of 90 kmph to 100 kmph. They claim a range of 120 km per full charge. The power output and battery capacity are not revealed yet. The battery can be fully charged in 3-4 hours. The launch date has also unknown but it is expected to launch in late 2020 and is estimated to launch at Rs 1 lakh.

5. Bird ES1

This scooter is very different from the others and stands out with its minimalistic design with the unique LED headlight. It has disc brakes on both wheels and has a ground clearance of 140 mm. As the looks might suggest it is not a performance-oriented scooter but a low-performance daily use scooter.

 It is powered by a 60V, 2Ah battery with a range of 50-55 km. The company also claims a top speed of 35 kmph. The Bird ES1 is also expected to launch mid-2020 at an estimated price of Rs 60,000.
